Our commitment
Meat Syndicate is a place for people who have been treated as disposable by the software industry. The last thing we need is another place that treats people badly. We are committed to a community that is safe, useful, and honest, regardless of experience, background, identity, or how someone got here.
Expected behavior
- Be direct without being cruel. Critique the work, not the person.
- Assume good faith. Ask a clarifying question before assuming malice.
- Respect boundaries, including "no" and "not now."
- Give credit. If you use someone's idea or work, say so.
- Share context. A link, a repro, or a sentence of background saves everyone time.
- Make room. If you've been talking a lot, let others speak.
Unacceptable behavior
The following will not be tolerated:
- Harassment, intimidation, stalking, or unwanted attention.
- Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other bigotry.
- Personal attacks, doxxing, or sharing private information without consent.
- Sexualized language or imagery in community spaces.
- Spam, recruiter pitches, affiliate links, or undisclosed promotion.
- Deliberate disruption, bad-faith arguing, or repeated boundary violations.
- Advocating for or celebrating harm to members.
Scope
This applies in the Telegram community, on the site, and in any space where you are representing Meat Syndicate. It also applies to behavior that follows a member into the community from elsewhere when that behavior makes the community unsafe.
Reporting
If something happens, tell a moderator in the community or email [email protected]. Include what happened, where, and who was involved if you're comfortable. You can report on behalf of someone else.
Reports are handled privately by the moderation group. We will not share your identity without your consent unless required to keep someone safe. We will tell you what we can about the outcome.
Enforcement
Moderation is done by volunteers. Depending on severity and history, the response may be:
- A private word or a public correction.
- A formal warning.
- Temporary removal from specific channels or the community.
- Permanent removal.
Decisions are made by the moderation group, not by one person. Serious cases are reviewed by at least two moderators. Anyone removed may ask for a review.
Moderation log
Moderation actions and rule changes are recorded and made available to members, with personal details removed. The point is not to shame anyone. The point is that power is visible.
Changes
This document is versioned. Anyone can propose a change in the community. Changes are discussed in the open and take effect after review by the moderation group. The current version is always published here.
